At Heart of the Forest Community Special School, we are committed to providing high quality PE opportunities for all of our pupils to improve their health and well – being. We believe that having a varied and innovative programme of activities has a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic performance of our pupils.
It fosters teamwork and understanding of rules and a competitive spirit. The Government have provided Primary School Sports funding since September 2013 to enable us to continue and expand our provision through having a dedicated PE leader to develop PE opportunities across the school. We are also employing additional sports professionals and entering into more competitive competitions through involvement in the school Games. We are developing staff confidence and competence to deliver high quality PE teaching and learning.
This grant is jointly but not equally funded by the Department for Education, the Department of Health and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. It is ring fenced to ensure that it must be spent on the provision of PE and sport activities in schools.
At Heart of the Forest School this funding is used to:
· Increase the engagement of all primary pupils in regular physical activity, working towards more healthy lifestyles
· Raise the profile of sporting activity in our primary school
· Improve the skills of all staff who teach primary PE and sport
· Enable primary pupils to experience a wider range of sports activities
· Increase the participation of competitive sports.
We are required to publish information regarding our use of this funding. The Sports Premium Strategy summarises the use of funding and intended impact. The most current strategy outlines how funding of £10,000 has been allocated, including planned expenditure in the academic year 2020-21.
